Yeu Island
Île d’Yeu, an island in the Vendée, certainly a little out of the way from the mainland, but the wildest of them all. It is accessible by boat from the ports of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and Fromentine, but also by helicopter and small private boats.
There are few motorized vehicles on the island… but plenty of bikes and tandems! A great day out for the whole family, in a peaceful, natural environment. This submerged island has a “taste” of Brittany, with its prehistoric remains such as dolmens, menhirs and cup stones. Over its 23 km length, Yeu Island boasts a wealth of maritime monuments: lighthouses, beacons, small harbours… As the Ogians so aptly put it, ” Oya deux jours, Oya toujours “! (Translation: We’re here for two days, we’re here forever!).
